What size beads should you use for hemp necklaces?

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I'm making a hemp necklace and I want to know what size beads I should use to put in it. Also, how far apart should each bead be and how far apart should they be from the beginning/end of the necklace?

Any size. My friend has a hemp necklace that hangs down to his waist with a HUGE glass bead on hit.

Be creative, there is no "right size" bead, the necklace should be your own creation!

What type of necklines are suitable for chunky necklaces?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I just got myself couple of chunky necklaces. What type necklines are suitable for this accessory, and what type of necklines should I avoid?

You could wear a scoop neck, regular crew neck, or strapless. I wouldnt wear a v-neck, cowl neck, or turtleneck. I think that wearing the scoopneck ot crewneck you can have any sleeve length(long, short, or sleeveless). Enjoy your necklaces!

What jewelry goes with a cream-colored dress?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I've got a formal cream-colored gown I'm planning to wear to a gala event. What kind of jewelry can I wear with it? I think pearls might clash since they're white, but could I do pearl drop earrings since they'll be farther from the dress? Does a gold necklace work? Any other suggestions?

white and gold, cream and gold, ivory and gold, they're all beautiful. No pearls. I would definitely go with gold, it's very back in style.

What kind of earrings to wear when ear piercing has healed?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I am going to put it a new pair of earrings but what kind should I use? (Ex: 14 k gold, sterling silver, etc.) My earlobe piercings have healed already. I got some from Target but I'm not sure if they are good quality ones. I got a pair that I really like and they are sterling silver. Would that be ok to wear or would it make my ears infected?

sterling silver is totally fine :) that's what i wore after my piercings healed!

answer mine?

How do you make bracelets that have hooks on them?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I know how to make the simple bracelets but how do you make the ones that have a clasp and hook so that you can open and close it? I just got some beads and I want to make those because they are easy to wear. Do you have to buy the hooks? Is there a way to just make them? Do you have to tie a special knot in the beginning?

A complete set of instructions and/or a diagram of the procedures would be greatly appreciated. :)

You can make metal hooks from wire yourself (see below), and you can make the other end of the clasp too if you want.

There are various ways to make connectors/clasps for bracelets and necklaces too –from wire alone, or from other materials, or from both together. Whether you need a "knot" or not depends on what you're using for cording and what type of connection to the clasp you want to make from it, so that's hard to answer. (You might even be using crimps, or glue and purchased findings, wire wraps, etc.)

For lessons (with diagrams or photos) for making what I call U hooks and also S hooks, look on this page at my site:
http://glassattic.com/polymer/wire.htm
(…click on "Basic Wire Shapes" then scroll down to "Clasps"

You might want to look through some of the lessons and definitions for different types of clasps and connectors on this page to get oriented a bit too:

http://glassattic.com/polymer/jewelry.htm
(… click on "Cords for Beads" and also on "Connectors")

P.S. "Wirework" is fun!
You will need at least a couple of pairs of small-nose pliers though –a pair of chain nose and a pair of round nose (or rosary) pliers, plus a pair of wire cutters (just ordinary ones will do) or toenail clippers work well –the squeezey type.

Does anyone know of a site for swapping beads and beading supplies?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

I just started playing with beads last year, making necklaces and earrings, and I already have a lot of beads that I'm not sure I'll ever use. Are there any sites for trading these beads, maybe something grab-bag style? It seems like it would be a good idea. I belong to a paperback book swap and I've saved a ton of money doing that, maybe swapping beads would be good too. Any suggestions?

Click on Groups, in your Yahoo Home Page. Type in Beading. If it's anything like Artist Trading Cards, you'll have about a gazillion groups to choose from. You can look at their splash pages without joining, (and joining is free anyway), and pick out groups that look like doing the things you like. I've found Groups to be a pretty good resource for trading.

Making necklaces with gemstone beads, where can I find an online site how to learn that?

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I just love gemstone necklaces and would love to design some for myself. Does anyone know a website that gives step-by-step decriptions and useful hints?

If you will do a search on “jewelry making tutorials” you will get a ton of results from most all search engines. You can modify that search by searching “gemstone necklace tutorial”.

Both searches gave me back ton of links

Good luck and happy beading!

What kind of body jewelry can be used in a tragus piercing?

Monday, November 24th, 2008

It is pierced with a 16g ring. I have no idea why, but they don't make special jewelry for tragus piercings…soo someone help me and let me know what kinda jewelry to use. I want it to have some sort of like diamond stud on it, so a small barbell or something, I just dont know what to use! thanks!

You could put just a regular diamod stud earring in it, don't put the back on though! I've had my tragus pierced for four years and I've always just worn regular earrings in it with no problem. You can buy small bars too, shop around.
