Do rosary decade beads have to be the same style and size?

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

I have been asked by a friend to make her a rosary necklace. I am not familiar with rosaries but am trying to learn. I know there are 10 beads and then a ‘father’ bead that is supposed to be larger, but do the ten beads have to all be the same? Or do they just all need to be smaller than the father beads?

the ten beads do need to be a marked size different from the larger bead.
OR
at least create some sort of more pronounced space between the ten small and the larger bead.

The reason for this is not religious in nature,
but
for assistance in the meditating.
As the Rosary is recited the feel of the beads is very very important.
The person praying is often lost deep in thought and contemplation and needs the feel of the bead’s change in size to distinguish the end of a decade and the start of the next mystery(Our Father bead).

Peace
btw

THERE ARE FIFTEEN PROMISES OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN TO CHRISTIANS WHO FAITHFULLY PRAY THE ROSARY

1 To all those who shall pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protection and great graces.

2 Those who shall persevere in the recitation of my Rosary will receive some special grace.

3 The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin and dispel heresy.

4 The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5 Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.

6 Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly reflecting on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune. He will not experience the anger of God nor will he perish by an unprovided death. The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in grace and merit eternal life.

7 Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

8 Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces and will share in the merits of the blessed.

9 I will deliver promptly from purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary.

10 True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in heaven.

11 What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain.

12 To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessities.

13 I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their intercessors, in life and in death, the entire celestial court.

14 Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

15 Devotion to my Rosary is a special sign of predestination.

all these promises are true and can be counted on

there are also many physical, mental and spiritual benefits to praying the Rosary daily.

How would you go about learning Jewellery making as well as working full time?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

I don't ask for myself, mind you :) but I have a friend who would like to learn how to make Jewellery professionally, but she does work full time. She lives in Liverpool and we can't find any evening courses, only full time degrees.

Can anyone offer any advice??

The beaded stuff is pretty easy to pick up on your own, but to learn serious techniques (i.e. soldering, actual metal forming) you really need to be able to devote some serious time to it. It's not something you can learn part time. Of course, she may consider asking around at some local jeweler's shops and seeing if she can get an apprenticeship, but she's probably going to have to suck it up and go to school.

What are other types of hemp bracelets to make?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

I have been making hemp bracelets for the last few days, but I only know how to make two kinds, the spiral and the flat. I want to make more advanced bracelets, but I can't figure out how. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A lot of people have this problem. Try a pretzel knot. They are neat looking and not overly hard. Here is a link: http://hemp-jewelry-designs.com/josephine-knot-pretzel-knot/

Tell me about the quality of silver beads made by the Karen Hill tribe?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

I am thinking of using some silver beads made by the Karen Hill Tribes out of Thailand. Does anyone know how the quality is? I know it's pure silver, but the beads look hollow. I want my beads to be solid and heavy, not hollow and cheap.

hill tribe silver is gorgeous. It's not as light as you think – even though they are sometimes hollow, it is pure silver, so it has a lot of weight for it's size.

The work is very high quality, and in person the necklaces made from them are pretty spectacular.

HIll tribe silver pieces are very recognizable to other people who are "beady" or are into jewelry.
