How do you store your pearl necklace and earrings?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Do you keep them in the white box that they came in? Do you place them on display? If so, how? Are they in your jewelry box? I just received pearl necklace and earrings for my wedding anniversary from my husband and don’t know where to place them. I have 2 jewelry boxes.

You can keep them in the packaging they came in, or a clean dry fragrance free pouch of some sort, but do not throw them into a jewelry box where they will rub against any other type of jewelry. The key to taking care of pearls is that they are the last thing you put on, after all creams, hair sprays and perfume, and the first thing you take off. Getting any type of lotions, perfumes, chemicals on them will destroy the nacre (coating on the outside) Pearls are fragile, so treat them more carefully than other jewelry when storing them. Do not use any type of chemical to clean them, only a slightly moist soft towel, but chances are they won’t need anything. If you wear them a lot it will be a good idea to get them restrung every 5 years or so. this will keep the silk cord clean and strong.

How do you make thick hemp bracelets?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I’ve been making normal little hemp bracelets but at school people are wearing these uber thick ones, I know they buy them but how do you make them?

And how do you make those other big fancy ones? like, belts and stuff?

U can braid small pieces together or if u want a flat piece sew it on something to stabilize it like a piece of leather.

Can I use wood beads to make a chandelier?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

I want to make a beaded light fixture – Something like a chandelier. Can I make it with wood beads if I use a 60 watt bulb? Is there a type of bulb I can use that won't burn the beads?

Any bulb that doesn't get hot enough to burn your hand when you touch it (after it's been on for a while) should be OK.

When I was in Asia I saw necklaces advertised as cultured pearl necklaces but the pearls were an inch?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

in diameter, so could this be true? They were not too expensive but I can't remember how much now. Maybe $50. But a lot cheaper than regular size pearl necklaces in the jewellers in Australia. I heard you can tell by sucking them and feeling the unevenness of the coating, but you can hardly do that while the shop assistant is watching. How big can pearls be before you know they are fake?

The size you describe is when you know they're fake, oh and the $50 price tag would be another tip off I would think.

About how much would sapphire jewelry cost?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Preferably a necklace or bracelet. And is there any particular place it would be best to buy it from? I've been wanting to buy it for someone for years but haven't had the chance.

It depends. I swear by amazon.com. No kidding, I can never find any deals cheaper than what I can find on amazon. You can put in criteria as well. Like Jewelry:Gemstones: Sapphire: Price Range. You can also choose from the type of jewelry you want I.E. Earrings, Necklace etc.

How practical is silver jewellery in the long term?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I have seen some stunning silver jewellery recently, really really beautiful. In particular a really lovely wedding band. My concern is, does it not scratch easily, tarnish and look dull after a little while?
After a few years of marriage and wearing it day in day out, would it look terrible?

Its not a cost thing, i just like silver and would like this particular
wedding band :)

I know nothing about silver, or silver care, so any advice would be amazing :)

It will last and last, as long as you are getting pure sterling silver, and not silver-coated jewelry.

I have Mexican jewelry from 1960, and with a quick cleaning with a microcloth, it looks brand new.

If you like the look of silver, and prefer another metal, look into white gold, or platinum.

Can i switch to 14 kt gold earrings after two weeks of piercing my ears?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I also have baseball practice and im not allowed to wear earrings, can i take them out for a couple of hours?

It is not a good idea. Even if your ears look absolutely fine they're still not healed. You should keep them in for at least 4 weeks, better if you can make it 6-8. The thing with piercings is that they seem okay and then they can get infected. Another thing is that 14K gold contains nickel in the alloy and you shouldn't let that metal anywhere near your ears until the piercings have really healed (that's 6-12 months later). Nickel can damage piercings that are years old, what do you think it'll do to your brand new piercings?

You also shouldn't take them out. Taking them out and putting back it – prolongs healing time and seriously raises your risk of infections and other complications.

I'm sure you can wait with changing your earrings. What's more important – your health or fashion? As far as baseball practice goes I'm sure you can talk to your coach. They make you wear starter studs because they're small and far less likely to cause any harm during physical activities.

Am i allowed to sell bracelets at the beach?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I am going to Gulf Shores, Alabama today and i want to sell these cool bracelets, will they let me? Can i just set a small table out with the prices?
I am actually selling it ON the beach, not in a store.

If you're going to set up a table, you probably need a permit. You might be able to wander around showing them/selling them to people without a problem. If you just sit on a blanket in the sand and solicit people walking by, you might not get questioned. Good luck.

What are those micro beads in Olay body wash line made out of?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I read that the micro beads are actually plastic but when I looked it up on the ingredients of the line, I didn’t see any plastic anywhere. Is it true or not?

Probably made of something toxic. Olay body wash has many dangerous ingredients. Check out the poor ratings it got on the Skin Deep cosmetic safety database: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearch.php?query=olay%20body%20wash
