What kind of beaded jewelry would you buy?

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I design and make beaded jewelry. While I've had some success with my pieces (both the gemstone and glass beaded pieces), I'm wanting to expand my hobby into an actual business. Please let me know what kinds of beaded jewelry appeal to you. I make necklaces, bracelets, rings, anklets, earrings and toe rings. The rings & toe rings are still pretty experimental, but the others have designs well underway, and I've made sales in those areas.

Thanks everyone!

do what i do and just make what feels good to you and wear it so people can ask where it came from! i like the beading with wire around them but cant figure out how to do it yet.

What is an easier way to get rust off of earrings than scraping it off?

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I have a pair of earrings that I left in the shower. They now have rust of them. I know it will come off because I can scrape it off with my fingernails. I just don't want to sit there and do it. What can I use to get it off with? Thanks!

I think you can use small brush, that will be better.
For earrings, you can have a look at this:

It's a collection of earrings or other nice jewelry.
Hope you will love the site.

I am considering manufacturing a line of jewelry I have designed. How do I find a reputable manufacturer?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

I am familiar with the process of manufacturing apparel. I would like to produce a line of jewelry. Any suggestions on a reputable manufacturer would be greatly appreciated. The line will consist mainly of white and yellow gold necklaces and bracelets. Thanks!

This would be like manufacturing a line of clothes, but you would be financing your own designs for your company.
You could look around for a partner to help with the costs.
Many universities have classes that students major in Art and jewelry making and designing. Or you could see if a jeweler would help in the making.
Paloma Picasso was a talented artist who sold the jewelry she made to Tiffanie's

Where can I buy cheap pearl necklaces for my bridesmaids?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I need to buy 6 necklaces for my bridesmaids. I want something with pearls, and I would prefer to buy a pearl drop type necklace. The only thing is that they have to be between $10-15. If you have any suggestions please let me know!

You can buy them from http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26rs%3D3367581%26high-price%3D15%26x%3D8%26ref%255F%3Dsr%255Fnr%255Fp%255F36%255Fpr%26keywords%3Dpearl%2520necklace%26low-price%3D0%26y%3D10%26qid%3D1241184479%26rh%3Di%253Aaps%252Ck%253Apearl%2520necklace%252Ci%253Ajewelry%252Cn%253A3367581%252Cn%253A%25213880591&tag=189-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

What is the best jewelry to wear with a golden-yellow prom dress?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I have a short golden-yellow prom dress with a black beaded belt from BCBG and I need some ideas about what jewelry I should wear with it. Thanks!

If the belt is beaded, I would go with black beads. Try to find something that matches the belt as to really accentuate it and make it stand out. DO NOT wear silver!

A lot of factors affect what you should wear exactly. If your dress is strapless, wear long earrings to accentuate your shoulders, but if your hair is up, I would go with a thinner strand so the earrings wont distract from the outfit.

Pearls are also a good choice if you ditch the belt, but you may want to keep the belt depending on shape of the dress so your waist wont get lost in the fabric.

Hope that helps! :)

How to insure a jewelry which will be sent in another country?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

How much would it cost to insure the jewelry (4.5 grams 14k white gold with yellow gold ring)?

Go to your local post office and ask how much it would cost to ship it by insured or registered mailing. Give them the estimated price of the jewelry and they can give you the cost of shipping. Just ask to have a signature requested to make sure it is received by the correct person and make sure if you are selling the item that the payment has cleared your bank before you ship.

How can I get my tiny online jewelry store advertised?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I'm starting a small business making unique jewelry. I'm not quite sure though on how to market it? Flyers? Business cards? I have the product, I just need to figure out how to get it out there. Any suggestions would help I 'm sure! Thanks!

google "crafts" and contact the websites that come up about advertising on their sites. When you have enough to make your own website, then you'll be well on your way.
To sell your product locally, make up flyers and post on every community notice board, ask your post office how much it would cost to have flyers added to the normal postal run, or boxes, do you have a local radio station that give free or cheap local and community ads, and get a spot in all local fairs, school fetes, fundraisers, anything you can think of in that line. Ask people you know that have kids for those ideas. Ask at local craft stores if you can put a flyer in their window. If you have your own website, include that on all flyers and notices, business cards when you sell face to face. Ask art and craft groups if you can sell on commission through them.
Just a few ideas, hope it helps

What is the best homemade clay recipe for making beads?

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I need a good clay recipe for making clay so i can make beads. It can be baked or air dried I don't mind but it just needs to be good!

Cornstarch Clay 1 (Porcelain type)
Ideal for items under 3/4" thick

2 cups (500 ml or .5 liter) cornstarch
2 cups (500 ml or .5 liter) baking soda
11/4 cups (310 ml) cold water

In a saucepan, combine cornstarch and baking soda. Gradually add water until the mixture is smooth. Heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a moist mashed-potato consistency.

Turn onto a plate, cover with a damp towel. Knead clay when cool enough to handle. Clay is now ready to shape into craft projects.

Takes a long time to air dry or dry in a warm oven (200F) but it may brown a bit.
clay may crack if items too thick or bulky
