How many converts would you make if you threw rosary beads to women at Mardi Gras?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

And would it be a sin if you kept looking after your threw those beads?

I take the rosary seriously. I have given rosaries, but I have never thrown them around like the Santa Claus in the back of a truck throws candies. I don’t think many would be converted.

How do you make a necklace without crimp beads?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

I’m bored and I want to make some jewelry, but i’m out of crimp beads.
I can’t really buy some kuz I don’t have any money. Any suggestions
besides tying a knot?

I rarely use crimp beads. I’m going to assume that you also do not have any clamshell/bead tip findings which negates the need for crimping since you finish with string on the clamp, knot a seed bead down into the "clam" and close it up to hide the bead leaving you with a little metal loop (http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H206672FD).

If you have a bead with a big hole in it, you can simply add your finding, loop back down, and tie a knot down into the hole of the bead. Then apply a little bit of glue. Let the knot dry full inside the bead. This effectively covers the knot.

You can do the same thing, with an exposed knot. Just try to make it a pretty knot.

There are two ways to finish with a small beaded loop if you want to hide the stringing material.

Make a loop of beads at both the ends. So string on say 10 seed beads (or other small beads) then take your needle back through the first bead. If there is space in the beads, take it around another time or two. Knot, then clip. Now you can add the jump rings and clasp to the loops.

If you are not using jump rings string on your small beads and add your clasp finding at the halfway point. Then finish your loop. You can combine this method with the "hide it in a big bead" method.

Hope some of this helps.

How many beads should I buy for my wife on a pandora bracelet to start?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I want to buy her a Pandora Bracelet for V day, but they are very pricey based on how many beads you put on it? I want to get her quite a few to start so it won’t look stupid without alot of charms. How many charms/spacers, etc, is a good place to start?

You don’t have to start with alot of beads. She will probably want to pick out a few herself so maybe get around 3 to start, like a birthstone bead, a glass bead in her favorite color and of course a heart, as well as giving her the booklet that shows all the beads so she can have some fun with it herself. It is a VERY thoughtful gift!

How exactly are Rosary beads supposed to be Holy?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

This question isn’t meant to offend, only inform me. I’ve been told that Rosary beads help ward off the paranormal, demons, that sort of thing yet I’ve also heard Rosaary beads can be made out of common plastic beads bought at AC Moore or Michael’s craft stores so I’m uncertain how these beads are really Holy in the first place. Are they prayed upon or something?

these ritualistic pagan beads are NOT Holy nor do they have any Biblical support, catholics use these as do some pagan groups I am told, they pray to/through Mary with these, also No Biblical Truth to support such an act..they are not pretty they are eery….got a white one in my ol catechism book somewhere’s, should I ever find it, it’s trashbound……God Bless

what are these really small beads called? i love how they look.?

I saw this girls video on youtube of her making necklaces and so want to be able to make my own! they look so good, can someone please watch this youtube video and tell me what kind of beads they are?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6k_gdh8maE

Those are simply "seed beads," seed beads in this case made from glass (not plastic, or other materials).

Seed beads come in various sizes and even some shapes (faceted, tube, cylinders, etc), in many colors and even metallic or iridescent colors, etc, and are strung onto various types of plastic or other cording.
Here she’s just stringing the beads singly onto a cord without using a needle, with one or two focal beads inbetween, but seed beads can be used in all kinds of ways, even for "bead weaving."

Here are some suppliers of the many type of seed beads:

How do a make a bead bracelet with knots in between the beads?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I would like to know how to make knotted bead bracelets especially how to attach a clasp. I’m using cotton cord to thread the beads on. Is there a particular type of knot that goes in between thee beads and how do I attach a clasp at the end?
Please help?

I’m not sure if you are talking about macrame or knotting as in pearl stringing. Pearl stringing uses a plain overhand knot. If you are using other beads, with larger holes, you may have to use bead caps or spacer beads to prevent knots slipping through the holes. There are many ways to attach a clasp, all dependent on the type of clasp, how you end the necklace / bracelet and your own preferences. May I suggest an on-line search for pearl stringing or pearl knotting.

What can I do with vertical drilled leaf beads?

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I went a little nuts and bought a bunch of beads I didn’t have ideas for. Among those were some beautiful vertical drilled glass leaf beads. I like to have some ideas on how to use them in bead weaving or simple stringing.
Does anyone have any inspiration to share; photos, links, ect..?

Thanks a bunch!

you could string them like fringe on a necklace with flowers and they would look like leaves of the flowers; you could string them as straight dangles for earrings; you could string them as a cluster on differing length chain for earrings or the ends of a lariat necklace
