How much would you pay for a pearl necklace?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I have a set but they were my Great Grandmothers so obviously I don’t want to wear them incase they get lost or damaged. I want to buy a nice pearl necklace & a set of earings. How much should I expect to pay?
Is this the sort of thing I should ask my dad to buy me or something I can afford myself?
How is that dirty=/ ?

There are lots of pearl shapes (ROUND PEARLS, OFF-ROUND PEARLS, OVAL PEARLS, BUTTON PEARLS, BIWA PEARLS, etc…) and types (BAROQUE, JAPANESE, FRESHWATER, etc…). Price depends on its quality and background. A good pearl necklace is not very cheap from $100 to $ 1000.00 or more.

How many distinct necklaces can you make from n different beads?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Just wanted to check on this one. I’m pretty sure that it’s the summation from i=1 to n of n!/((n-i)!*i) which would be the summation of the circular permutations from a set of cardinality n. But I would really appreciate it if someone would help me out and make sure I’m on the right track here. Thanks so much!

Think any easier sum to answer the same question would be as follows:
There are n! ways of putting the beads on the piece of string.
Once you join the ends ups this reduces it by a factor of n so (n-1)! possible necklaces. However clockwise vs clockwise are just mirror images so half this to give (n-1)!/2.
So answer is just (n-1)!/2 for n>2.

How do you make a necklace out of shells?

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I just got all these beautiful black shells from the sea, and i want to make a necklace chain out of it. I’m thinking about poking holes in them somehow, but how?!?!?!?!?!?!!! Help! Can this be done????????

Depending on how small the shells are, if you try and punch holes into the shells, I would hate to see you them break on you. You may have to consider purchasing shells with holes already in them. They would be easy to string too. This site, QualityShells.com has an enormous selection of shells for craft items and such. I purchase my shells from them in bulk for art and craft projects. You may want to check them out for any future projects.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone know how to make cute necklaces and earrings?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I would like to make a necklace and earring set for my bridesmaids to wear during the wedding. I’ve seen some really cute handmade costume jewlery and I thought that would be a really nice thank you gift. Any ideas or photos would be appreciated. I want the jewlery to be either burgandy/gold or burgandy/silver.

For affordable bridesmaid jewelry you may want to check out http://www.glamforless.com/bridesmaid-jewelry.htm. I got my bridesmaids jewelry from them and I was very happy.
