Question by tu_sense1: How do you bead a dress?
I want to bead a dress. I am not sure how to go about it. I have read that you string 3-5 beads, put the needle through the fabric, pull it back out, go through the beads, and then move on to your next 3-5. Is this correct?

Best answer:

Answer by eeyorefan59
It sounds right the way you want to do this. However, I would keep the bead count to three. Also keep your tension as even as possible. I would love to see how this works out for you. I found this link for you, read it through and give it a shot. http://www.ehow.com/how_4424660_sew-beads.html
I wish you the best. Also before you jump into doing it, if you have never done it before, surf the internet and search for “sewing beads to fabric”. May help you out even more

Question by Lex: In general, how many seed beads are used in a typical Native American bead and loom project?
I’m just beginning my learning in this area, and I’ve found places to buy beads and patterns, etc, but I’m not sure of quite how many beads to purchase to begin making projects. Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by yardchicken2
There are a few things to help you figure out how many you will need.

The size of the bead — (the most common is a size 11 seed bead) – will affect how many you need, as well as how many beads you ill get per gram.

Just a note: most say the bead size number will usually let you know how many seed beeds when lined up on a needle will make an inch.

However in the real world world the number of beads it takes to make an inch, is usually a bit more.

Either way, the larger the number – the smaller the bead.

Often a pattern will be kind enough to tell you how many beads will be needed to complete a project.

I find that 10 grams of delicas will cover a goodly decent amount. If I have a small amulet bag – say 3×3 inches – I know that if there four colours and I have 5 grams of each color – it will be enough for the project and still have beads left over.

If you want to be a bit more precise, a good way to figure for each pattern is to see how many inches your project is in length and width. Then based on what size bead, you will have a guess-estimate on how many beads total you will need to make the project.

Take an estimate of what percent of the project is each colour (for example most of your background is about forty percent of the project – so you can get an estimate of forty percent of your total beads. – that will give you a good rule.)

Then you can have an idea of how many grams of each colour you will need. Who ever you are purchasing from can give you an idea of how many beads of a given size will be in a gram.

here’s some charts that are handy:

http://www.beadnook.com/BeadSizeCharts.html

This one has ave number of beads per grams:

http://www.beadworksboston.com/tips-techs/seedbead-sizes.htm

http://www.beading-frenzy.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=8

I hope this will help out. I don’t do much loom work or square stitch, but occaisionally do design for it. I have some things on my blog (the link to the flick site will have the things that are designed for square stitch/loom/herringbone) you might enjoy seeing. The beadweaving is mostly in earlier articles. http://thebeadkitchen.blogspot.com/

I am a newbie on beading, and I am making a pin that includes a conical shaped flower (usually it’s used turned upsidedown on necklaces). I’d like to wire it with crystal beads, but as the frame is closed, I’m not sure how to begin. Can anyone describe to me a good way to accomplish what I am looking to do?

Question by : I need ideas on having guest at baby shower make a bead necklace for the mommy to be?
I heard of this idea where you ask guest beforehand to bring a bead to the shower and I have a journal for each to write good wishes to the mom and baby, then we string the beads along with wire to make a necklace so the mom can have it during labor to remind her she has people praying for her and thinking of her.. My question is how do I set all this up during the baby shower.. and relate the beads with each guest?

Best answer:

Answer by Megan Dumas
The beads should be bought by the mother to be or the individual throwing the mother to be the shower. Don’t have people bring in their beads for sanitation purposes and for the idea of not wanting to have an ugly necklace. Buy beads that the mother will actually enjoy wearing. Instead of a necklace, try a bracelet if there aren’t over 50 guests at the shower. As the guests walk into the baby shower, have them all pick up a bead that they find intriguing out of a bowl of the beads, then before they all leave, have the string ready for the guests to slide their bead onto.
Badabang! The bracelet/necklace will be being made as the guests come and go.

Question by Now What: How can I make own bead loom? what materials do I need?
How can I make my own bead loom at home? are there any specific measurements or instructions? I have a couple pieces of wood but wanted to know if there are specific measurements, thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by itay b
Equipment:
1×6 board of any kind at least 4 feet long
wood glue
6 wood screws
screwdriver
toothpicks
duct tape

Take your 1×6 board and cut it in to three pieces. Cut one long piece about 3 or 4 feet. It depends on the length of the beaded pieces you want to make. I made mine 36 inches long. If you are only making hatbands you could build a much smaller loom. You need two pieces of 1×6 for the sides. Make them about 6 inches long.
Lay the long board flat and glue the two small pieces on so it looks like the picture below. Reinforce the boards by adding 2 wood screws at each end. This is because when you are winding nylon thread tightly across the loom, it causes alot of pressure on the end boards, and you will want to make sure those end boards have no chance of bending.
In the center of each small end piece. place a small wood screw in the center. Do not screw completely in. These screws will act as anchors for your thread.
Take your toothpicks and glue them on so that most of the toothpick is attached to the board and the remaining part sticks above the board. These will act as separators for your rows of thread. You could also attach a comb to the board instead of toothpicks, or a spring of some kind, anything that will separate your strings evenly and not too far apart. As an added reinforcement, i wrapped strong duct tape around the glued part of the toothpicks. Rugged and simple in design, but it works very well and lasts for years, giving you a chance to spend your money on beads and patterns instead.

Best answer:

Answer by Kings
Is it threaded, or a captive bead? Threaded is simple you just screw it on. If it’s captive, then there should be two dimples on the bead, put one directly on the post and push the otherside in, it takes alot of tries at first but you’ll get it. I rememebr my first time fighting with one hahaha i thought i was gonna go beadless

Simple as that, is there a tool to buy to accurately measure how many millimeters a bead hole’s diameter is?

Answer by who is #1?
I believe needles are sized by guage. Try to find a needle that fits and if it doesn’t say on the label what size it is, you could take it to the hardware store and ask to handle a vernier caliper and SHAZAM! you just happen to have a needle to try it out on.
