They could, and did, make beads in almost every color of the rainbow. They also made beads from gold. The beads ranged in size from smaller than a pea to the size of a walnut. It's going to be difficult for you to make it the way the ancient Egyptians did, but instead of using clay, glazing and firing the beads, you can use papier mache - tear up newspaper into small strips, add water, then mix a little salt and flour into it until it becomes workable. Form the beads around drinking straws (once the beads are dry and you have painted them with poster paint or whatever kind of paint you wish, you will cut the straws apart to release the beads and each bead will be hollow in the middle so you can thread it on a string. To make metal beads, you can roll strips of aluminum foil around the straws. None of this is authentic, but it will give you Egyptian style beads. You can also get some jelly beans or gummy bears and, using a darning needle and heavy thread, string them to make beads. They often wove the beads together to make a neckpiece, rather than a single strand necklace. Purple, blue, red, yellow, and all those basic colors were used.
