How to make own jewellery and then sell it on website?
I was thinking about setting up an online jewellery business. But how would I make the jewellery and where can I get the chains, beads, etc etc?
I wouldn’t advise trying to do this unless you’re already very accomplished at making jewelry. There are a lot of people who are trying to sell jewelry online, some on eBay, some on Etsy, and others have their own dedicated websites. Very few of them, even the most talented, are making much money. Remember, too, that you’re going to be competing with the people in third world countries who will work all day for the equivalent of one US dollar. This goes for any labor, skilled or unskilled. For instance, I’m quite a good crocheter and knitter, but I will never be able to compete against the people in the third world countries who will knit and crochet for almost nothing.
As for the components, well, just do a search on "jewelry findings" and you will find a gazillion sites offering the components.

First and foremost you should figure out what kind of jewellery you would like to make. Remember, it should be something you’d enjoy wearing, but also something you can easily sell in terms of setting a great price and unique appeal. There are many jewellery designers out there today and it can get pretty competitive. Secondly try making a few samples, and taking some good pictures of them.Once you have that done, there are plenty of sites out there where you can create a free website (etsy would be one) and you should upload your pictures on there.
In terms of supplies, it would be best if you went to a wholesaler. They have minimums however you end up purchasing things much cheaper than if you went to a retail bead store. Not to mention you have the added advantage of getting new items first and exclusively before the bead stores.
Lastly, the most important part: Making the jewellery. It helps if you have someone show you or if you take a class, however many successful designers are self taught, and with the Internet it is very easy to teach yourself. Try looking on You Tube, bead forums, beading magazines and reading beading articles. You should be able to teach yourself in about a day or so every technique needed to make a pair of earrings, matching bracelet and even a necklace. The next couple of days it will just be practice practice practice until you get it perfect. I would suggest at first using plain , cheap dollar store wire so you don’t waste Sterling Silver or precious metal wire for wire wrapping etc.
I hope this answers some of your questions. If you have any concerns regarding the business side of jewellery, do not hesitate to check out the article link below.
